working with Lulu Fall

Voice Coaching Lessons:

Tailored vocal coaching is available for experienced singers! Primarily focusing on audition, performance and recital preparation, these lessons are designed to enhance your stage presence and musical knowledge.

  • If you need assistance preparing for a recital, audition or performance then voice coaching is for you! Before diving into prep material, our first few lessons together will focus reviewing/establishing proper breath support: proper diaphragm breathing, equal distribution of breath (breath control), resonation.

  • Using specific exercises to maintain proper tonal quality and establish healthy sounds, our next set of lessons will be dedicated to applying these techniques to your song material. Taking it in “bite-sized chunks”, we will use melodies from your song, break it down into smaller measures, temporarily turning the melodies into technical exercises. Coaching in this way provides context, while reinforcing proper muscle memory, forward positioning using the “mask”, and familiarization with your piece. During these lessons, we will start to break down the storytelling element of the song: personal connection to the story; emphasizing certain lyrics for dramatic and imaginative effect; strong beginning/middle/end arc.

  • Our final few lessons in this package will be geared toward practicing, living and breathing your material. I will not only provide you with tools to set strong practice goals, I will also provide constructive feedback as you practice performing your material. We will focus on the nitty gritty clean-up work: continued technique, storytelling and connectivity, enunciation, mapping out breathing points. Repetition is your friend, so be prepared!

Instructional Vocal Lessons:

These lessons are specifically for those new to singing! Here, we will start off slow and steady, primarily focusing on establishing a solid foundation by developing vocal skills from the ground up.

  • Our first few lessons are dedicated to familiarizing myself with your voice, as well as establishing proper diaphragm breathing. Having a strong relationship between the breath and the voice is key to vocal health and longevity. The best way to learn your voice as a new student is to establish techniques in the three registers: chest voice, mix voice, and head voice. Even if you are familiar with this, it is always a helpful gem to review.

  • After establishing a strong relationship between breath and voice, we will put that connection to work! During these sets of lessons, we will work on maintaining the same tonal quality throughout the 3 registers: chest, mix, and head (or falsetto). This is where we will begin the activation of resonation of the “mask”: nose, cheeks, forehead. Think of this as an intense vocal workout, our focus being on establishing muscle memory.

  • Using exercises like lip trills, arpeggios, voice glides will help maintain the relationship between breath and phonation, further increasing muscle memory and vocal strength. During this phase of lessons, we will begin applying these technical elements to songs of your choice. The goal is to maintain the same tonal quality - forward positioning (using the “mask” resonators), proper breath support, proper placement regardless of register.

Anais, Vocal Coaching Student

“ What I love about Lulu's vocal lessons is that she really caters to your needs. When I met with lulu, I was really struggling with dynamics and didn't even realize it at the time. We were able to go through strength building exercises and now since those lessons I've been able to have much more vocal control. Lulu really cares about her students and their growth so I'm really grateful to have worked with her. ”

“Lulu Fall sees the best in everyone. No matter who it is, she approaches them and gives out her hand to help them stand up and grow . I was very insecure and believed I didn't have any confidence. Lulu helped guide me on the road to courage. She helped me see that my insecurities are just little obstacles that can be overcome if you just try. She is patient and doesn't judge when you go flat or don't breathe properly, instead she uses it in a positive way and makes it into a lesson you can learn from. “
